

Building Confident Readers at Richland Library -Main
Parents, grandparents, and caregivers are eager to help the children in their lives learn to read but are often unsure how to do so. DRC, in partnership with the Richland Library, will present Building Confident Readers, a workshop that offers practical suggestions for teaching students to read and connects participants with resources available at the library. Plus, participants leave with materials to use at home!

Associate Level Training w/ Janet Jones, Fellow/AOGPE
Orton-Gillingham Associate Level Training July 22 - 26 and July 29 - August 2, 2019 8:30am - 4:30pm Monday - Friday for two consecutive weeks. Must attend both weeks.
Why Orton-Gillingham? Widely held as the premier approach to educational intervention for individuals with dyslexia and taught by Fellows of the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators, the Orton-Gillingham training provides teachers and parents with knowledge and strategies to address the needs of students who struggle with written language.
What do I get with this course? 70 hours classroom instruction, plus all required books and materials Topics include:
Principles of Orton-Gillingham instruction
Nature and needs of dyslexic learners
Phonological awareness
Sound-symbol relationships
Syllable types and division patterns
Spelling rules and generalizations
Handwriting instruction
Reading fluency
Morphology
Integration of vocabulary & comprehension instruction
Structured, multi-sensory teaching techniques
Lesson plan development and delivery
Informal diagnostic-prescriptive assessment of reading, spelling, and handwriting
*This course results in a Certificate of Attendance. For those wishing to become certified at the Associate Level, information on the required Practicum will be provided as part of the course.

Structured Literacy Tutoring Sessions
Morning Homeschool Program - meets Tuesdays/Thursdays from 9am-noon. Includes a 50-minute structured literacy lesson, small group math Instruction, learning centers & a group snack/brain break. Rolling enrollment based on availability.
After school lessons meet a minimum of twice weekly for a 50-minute structured literacy lesson. Rolling enrollment based on availability.
No Group lessons are currently available.
Lunch & Learn for DRC Tutors
All DRC tutors are invited to regular Lunch & Learn events. This is a time of fellowship and professional development. Bring your lunch & join us for all or any of our scheduled dates!
